Harry Shapiro

Harry Shapiro has combined life as a music journalist and author with a career working for charities dealing with drug use and addiction. The two came together in his book Waiting for the Man: the Story of Drugs and Popular Music, voted the best music book of the twentieth century by the BBC Millennium website. It led to a series of acclaimed music biographies (subjects include Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton); his latest book, Fierce Chemistry: 100 Years of UK Drug Wars (Amberley) is a definitive and controversial history of our society’s ambivalent attitude towards drugs.
