Joel Bird
Joel Bird is a builder, carpenter, painter, musician, potter, swing dancer and (last but not least) writer. He was the winner of the first Shed of the Year competition, which features on George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces TV show on Channel 4, and has gone on to present Your Garden Made Perfect (BBC2, 2021) and The Great Garden Revolution (Channel 4, 2021).
Joel’s first book The Book of Shed (Bonnier, 2017) is a guide to where, how and - most importantly - why you should build a shed. His second, The Table Maker (Bonnier, 2018) is a philosophical, whimsical look at the importance of carpentry, through the lens of the process of designing and building a table by hand.
Joel is originally from Liverpool, and lives with his family in Margate, Kent.
